Madagascar Prison Reform
Moringa Inc is a non profit company based in the U.S. 501(c)(3) a sister company to Moringa Madagascar, a registered association. Members of the board are Tamar DeJong, Bruce DeJong, and Janet Midthun. Their mission is to support prison rehabilitation and prisoner welfare in Madagascar, with team members on the ground to supervise construction projects and maintain financial accountability.
Tamar grew up in Madagascar and Bruce spent his childhood and young adulthood in India. They met during college as third culture kids and married in 1980. Tamar and Bruce have worked in India since 1990, Bruce as a medical physician working in a low income clinic, and Tamar as the founder and manager of a social business for marginalized women (https://www.bluemangotrust.com/). They took a two-year sabbatical in Madagascar (1999-2000), which kindled a deeper connection to the country and inspired plans to return at a later date. Janet Midthun was also raised in Madagascar, and she and Tamar have been close friends since childhood. Janet is a massage therapist who loves traveling and singing in her church choir.
During the past three years, Tamar and Bruce have worked for several months a year in Madagascar. Bruce trains doctors into hand held ultrasound, dermatology and heart disease. Tamar, Hanitra and Maoly work in the prisons, with Bruce and Dr. Elson as team members. Moringa Madagascar was recently registered as a legal entity while at the same time, Moringa Inc was created to be the U.S. counterpart. Funds are raised through Moringa Inc and sent to Moringa Madagascar with the purpose of renovating the deplorable Malagasy prisons and improving general prisoner welfare.

Donations are very welcome, in fact, we cannot continue to do our work without you.
Please give through Zelle Chase Bank into the Moringa Inc. account..
Moringa Madagascar is a small organization with very low overheads. We have no office. We have no company vehicle. Maoly is reimbursed for his valuable supervisory work on the ground. He keeps scrupulous inventory of materials, and purchases the materials himself which prevents any possible mishandling of our limited funds. The rest of the team works for free within the organization. Hanitra organizes all of the vouchers for audit submission and manages the bank account. Dr. Elson helps us connect with important officials and Dr. Bruce is a wise consultant and often treats sick inmates in the prison itself. Tamar is in charge of fund-raising and works side by side with Hanitra in the prisons while in Madagascar.
We promise to respectfully use your donations wisely as regards to transparency and fiscal accountability.
Thank you and much love from Moringa Madagascar on behalf of the Malagasy prisoners.
